The blog is written by me, Reg Connolly, and as you read the articles, remember that none of them are ‘true’ – they are not carved in stone but are merely my current views and interpretations.
The Map is not the Territory
In NLP we have a saying, or Presupposition, which goes: ‘the map is not the territory’. Now if you’ve done an NLP course you’ll recognise this and, no doubt, be very clear about its meaning.
For those who haven’t come across it before ‘the map is not the territory’ simply means that anyone’s description of something is simply their current view or opinion or prejudice. Their description is not true, it isn’t reality and it’s open for discussion. And because we all view things in, at very least slightly different ways, my views will differ from yours and yours will differ from someone else’s and so on – and they will all be, ideally, open for discussion 
But I’m right
People who have fixed or rigid views are mistaking the map for the territory; they truly believe that their’s is the only true view or interpretation. They will argue this – and will often seek out and spend time with other people who have similar views so they can support one another and strengthen their shared belief that they are right.
